We support the Southern Michigan Railroad Society in building a world-class operating railroad museum in southeast Michigan. So far, we focus on buying land for a future museum site, for shops, car-barns and visitor amenities.
We are designated as a 501(c)(3) public charity and a Type II Supporting Organization. Type II means we are "brother/sister" organizations with "common control", in other words, our Boards of Directors overlap. Every Type II organization must have common control. Without the Type II designation, tough IRS regulations make it difficult to operate, and particularly, to fundraise.
